Happend or happened?
Happened is the right spelling. Happend is a common misspelling of it.
HAPPEND leaves out the E after EN.
Why people write HAPPEND
Some letters are barely said, or not said at all, in everyday speech (the N in government, the P in pumpkin), so they drop out when the word is written as it sounds.
Spell the word out loud the slow way, exaggerating every letter ("govern-ment", "pump-kin"), and the missing letter comes back.
How often HAPPENED is misspelled
In the web pages Google counted for its trillion-word corpus (Peter Norvig's word counts), HAPPEND appears 13 times for every 1,000 HAPPENED, about once for every 77 correct uses.
Is HAPPEND a word?
No. HAPPEND is not in NWL2023, Collins Scrabble Words or ENABLE, the word lists Scrabble and other word games use, so no word game accepts it. HAPPENED is in all three and scores 16 points in Scrabble before bonus squares.
